Slow performance when opening a new task or starting Sage 100, or when running Sage 100 across a network can be caused by a number of reasons. The most common is Antivirus software checking all Sage 100 files as they load. Review your Antivirus settings as outlined below to insure it is not the cause of the slow performance.

Check antivirus settings:

  1. Verify the Antivirus program has been configured to exclude the following folders on server and workstations:
    • “..\MAS90” directory where Sage 100 is installed and where Workstation Setup is installed
    • “..\Crystal Reports*” folders
      • Example: “Crystal Reports 2011 for Sage”
  2. Verify that antivirus program has been configured to exclude the following files on both the server and workstations:
    • DCL, DD, DDE, DDF, LIB, M4D, M4L, M4P, M4T, PRM, PVC, PVX, RPT, SOA, XEQ
  3. Disable Smartscan Technology (Norton) or any other aggressive (or “real-time”, “constant”, “on-access”, etc.) scanning utilities that may interfere with operations
    • Note: If you are using Webroot antivirus, you may have to actually uninstall, as disablement does not seem to always work
  4. Set the antivirus to scan ONLY when starting up the workstation, so that it does not interfere with normal operations
  5. Set the antivirus to prompt for action rather than delete or rename the file
  6. Disable the scanning of network drives
    • If the AV software programs are scanning network files and the workstation has drive mapping to the server, this will lock up MAS90. Deselect Network Scanning on all workstations.
  7. If using Symantec:
    • Disable Tamper Protection
      • This has known to cause extreme lockups
    • Change the Proactive Threat Scanning from DEFAULT setting to once a day
    • Change the scan settings for files that have been modified rather than accessed
    • Avoid installing the Symantec End Point Client directly onto the server as the scans will slow all of the server processes
  8. Consider temporarily disabling antivirus and firewall. See if performance improves significantly.

We get many questions about how to process 1099 forms using the Aatrix upload features available in Sage 100. The process is really very simple:

  1. Analyze your 1099 data in Sage 100 Accounts Payable.
  2. Process the 1099 data using 1099 Tax Reporting in Sage 100.
  3. Upload the 1099 data to Aatrix.

Aatrix does the rest.

We have a suite of 1099 Crystal Reports and a written 1099 Procedure available to help you analyze your Sage 100 1099 data. Contact us for details.

After finalizing your data, Sage 100 will upload the files to Aatrix for processing.  The charge for the full service is $2.39 each with a minimum charge of $24.95.  For this price they print and mail recipient copies, efile all Federal and State government forms required, and provide a link for your vendors to download their 1099 on the internet if desired.  You can select the dates your forms are to be processed. There is no charge to set up an account with Aatrix.  You simply pay the processing fee by credit card when uploading your data files. Aatrix then keeps you posted on the status of your submission by email.

By the time you buy forms and envelopes (many of which are not used), print the forms, stuff them, add postage, mail them, then print and mail 1096 information to the IRS and the state the cost is about the same and your processing time is greatly reduced.

The advantage is that all you do is prepare the amounts then upload them to Aatix through the interface in Sage.  They handle the rest and send emails to you as they are processed.

Almost all my clients now use this option.  We don’t make anything on this when you use it – we just recommend it as the easiest way to process your 1099’s.  Here is a link to their processing options and pricing. Scroll to the bottom to see 1099 pricing options.

Here is a YouTube video showing how to process 1099 forms with the Aatrix interface.

Overall, the process is easy and cost effective, saving your staff a lot of time with this annual ritual!
